Happy Tuesday everyone!
This weeks Edition is dedicated to my client Sean and our “Get Sh*t Done” culture we’ve been working on.
You see, we all have tasks that linger on our to-do lists longer than they should, decisions we avoid, and days where focus feels impossible. The trick isn’t about waiting for motivation to strike, it’s about setting yourself up to consistently make progress.
Here’s what Sean and I are focusing on to do just that.
Stop Procrastinating. Take care of it NOW!
Procrastination thrives when tasks feel overwhelming or unclear. The solution? Break things down into smaller, less intimidating pieces. If you’re avoiding a project, identify the next tiny step you can take—whether it’s writing the first sentence of an email, opening a blank document, or making a five-minute plan. Once you start, momentum kicks in.
Another hack: set a timer for just five minutes and commit to working on the task for that short window. Often, getting started is the hardest part, and once you’re in motion, you’ll likely keep going. If you’re still struggling, ask yourself: “What’s the worst thing that will happen if I just start this now?” You’ll usually realize the fear or resistance isn’t as big as it seems.
Finally, the best way to keep things off your “To do list” is to not add them to begin with. Instead of writing down “Schedule a meeting” on a to do list…….. just…. schedule….. the …… meeting.
Make Faster, Better Decisions
Decision fatigue is real. The more choices you have to make, the harder each one becomes. The best way to counter this?
Keep yourself out of decisions you don’t really need to be making (Happens ALL THE TIME). Let the perfect shade of Orange for the website be somebody else’s worry.
Set rules and defaults for yourself. If you’re debating between two options, try setting a deadline—give yourself five minutes to decide and move on.
Ask yourself “What’s the worst that could happen here?” if the answer is pretty inconsequential, then go with your gut. You can always come back to it latter if you picked the wrong route.
If it’s a big decision, flip the perspective. Ask yourself, “If I were advising a friend, what would I tell them to do?” We tend to be clearer and more rational when we’re looking at a situation from the outside.
Keep Progress at the Center
Perfectionism kills momentum. Progress happens when you focus on movement, not just results. Instead of aiming for flawless execution, shift your mindset to consistency. Done is better than perfect, and iteration leads to improvement over time.
To stay on track, try the “one big thing” rule—each day, define the single most important task you need to complete. If you finish it, the day is a win. If you have extra energy, tackle more, but ensure that one thing gets done no matter what.
Finally, create accountability. Whether it’s a deadline, a friend checking in, or a reward system, external incentives can keep you motivated. If you struggle with self-discipline, structure your environment to remove distractions—put your phone in another room, block social media, or work in a different location to reset your focus.
At the end of the day, progress isn’t about waiting for the perfect moment. It’s about making small, consistent choices that keep you moving forward. Start now, start small, and keep going.
