7 Products Solar companies should be selling in 2024
Happy Tuesday everyone!
This week on Linkedin I posted up a picture of an In-N-Out menu as an example of the power of simplified pricing and maintaining a tight area of focus. Outside of everyone’s love for the double/ double….there was widespread agreement that the simple pricing model works.
Today I want to look at another aspect of the menu that I think a lot of Solar contractors could benefit from.
Selling more by combining COMPLIMENTARY PRODUCTS.
You see at some point In-N-Out said “We should also sell shakes and fries” along with their hamburgers and in doing so found ways to deliver more value to their customers. As a result, instead of selling $3 cheeseburgers, they started selling $7 combo meals.
If you can find a way to collect double the money from the same customer base, you can either double your revenue or cut your marketing needs in half.
There is a secret balance here that needs to be called out. Notice I said “COMPLIMENTARY PRODUCTS” above… This is incredibly important. Sure, In-N-out could have started selling tacos, fried chicken, buffalo wings and Orange Chicken, but they didn't. Why? Because it doesn’t compliment their core business of selling Cheeseburgers.
This same mistake is happening in the solar industry all the time.
1- Some companies sell just solar.
2- Some companies are all over the place. They do real estate, landscaping, mortgages, plumbing, bathroom remodels, ect.
With that said, here’s my top picks for COMPLIMENTARY PRODUCTS you can and should be adding to your solar offering.
1. Battery backup systems:
Like cheese and crackers, these two are a perfect fit. If you;re not already doing it, you’re behind the times.
2. EV Chargers:
As electric vehicle adoption grows, solar contractors can provide EV chargers that utilize solar energy, offering a green, cost-effective solution for home charging needs
3. HVAC services:
Upgrading HVAC systems to more energy-efficient models complements solar installations by reducing overall energy consumption, maximizing the benefits of solar power. Besides, who doesn't want to get off natural gas and heat their home with their all electric system?
4. Roofing:
Solar +Roofing is a winner. Who wants non-roofer putting holes in their roof?
5.Insulation:
Proper insulation reduces energy consumption by maintaining home temperature, which works synergistically with solar energy systems to enhance overall energy efficiency.
6. Gutter Installation and Repair:
Easy to get leads for. Properly maintained gutters protect roofs and solar installations from water damage. Offering this service ensures the longevity and effectiveness of both the roof and solar panels.
7. Energy efficient pool pumps:
Again, a little easier to get leads for. Installing energy-efficient pool pumps helps homeowners reduce their energy usage, complementing solar power by lowering overall electricity demand.
In a nutshell, diving into extras like battery backups, EV chargers, HVAC upgrades, roofing, insulation, gutters, and energy-efficient pool pumps is like adding sprinkles to your solar sundae. It’s a sweet deal for everyone! Offering these services means you’re the ultimate energy efficiency superhero, swooping in to save the day (and some serious cash) for homeowners. Plus, who doesn’t want to be the one-stop-shop for all things sustainable and efficient?
Until next Tuesday… Have a great week!
